Miniature Breed Dog Potty Training

The reason why dog lovers have got this preconceived view that small dogs are more difficult to educate than medium sized or larger dogs, I will never be able to know. Housebreaking a puppy, irrespective of its size should not pose a problem.

Small dog training, is in no way different from training a dog of any other bigger sized breed. While training any puppy will have its peculiarities, based on its breed, most all other features remain the same, and the strategy to training the pup should stay the same, regardless its size.

Having said that, I will make an exception here, and admit that small dog training may pose issues in two areas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy crate training. Nevertheless, this is not because the size of the breed is small, but ten times out of ten, because of the owner.

If a smallish breed puppy is aggressive and is difficult to train, or if a tiny breed puppy cannot be bathroom trained or poses difficulties in being toilet trained, it is the owner who has unknowingly contributed to this state of affairs. Let us investigate how and why.

Aggression.

Small dogs are loved because they are adorable, they are like toys. Owners get pleasure from having their pet sit on their laps. This particular indulgence is where the difficulty commences. The inherent aggressive trait of the canine, is to declare ownership over its domain, its food, even its owner; all canines desire to be the alpha dog.

It is the hostile streak in the puppy that induces it to climb on to the lap of its master, especially when there are a number of persons gathered in the room.

This is a clear act of violence. Instead of chiding the puppy, every owner bar no one, would cuddle the pooch, although it jumped on to their lap without being asked to, developing the aggressive streak in the dog. By doing this the owner has okayed the puppy's basic instinct to be the alpha dog.

Growling and getting angry at a a larger size dog is another blatant act of unwanted anger. To the owner, and even the onlookers, this is regarded as cute, just because one dog is tiny while the other is larger. Most owners cuddle the dog instead of chastising it, when it demonstrates this aggression towards a larger dog.

The above are but good examples as to why small breed puppies are aggressive, and positively not because small dog training is complicated.

Bathroom Training

Owners choose to carry their small puppies around no matter where they are, even when they are at home and that makes it practically impossible to potty train them

It is, as if by second nature that the owners of miniature breed dogs to carry the animal to the designated place where the dog should go to the bathroom and then carry it back into the house.

It is this pattern of carrying the pooch to the outdoors to poop that is the start of all complications. In addition, as the pup is as a rule carried around all the time it has no way of it suggesting to or alerting the owner that it has to go to the bathroom.

Small dog training commences with treating the dog as any other normal dog. They have to be transported to their bathroom area on a leash. If owners avoid carrying their small breed dogs they would be very successful in training them.

Dog crate training, is the most exciting part of dog training, and so it must be, even in Small Dog Training.
